Circle, Square, Ladybugs and Lonesome George

On a recent bike ride we met Lonesome George along the path. When my camera failed to turn into a cracker dispenser, he waited patiently while I took his picture. As we biked on we came across a bit of grassy geometric graffiti. If my brother were a graffiti artist or picnic table defacer, this would be the kind of mark he would make.On a walk with Don and Subburdenite in Mount Diablo State Park, we stumbled upon this ladybug nest. I had initially picked up the pine cone due to its grand size and was startled by its movement. I then realized this was home to one of my favorite bugs. There must have been thousands of them under multiple cones. We tried to take pictures without disturbing them too much. Don took this one. After, I kept humming an unknown ladybug song. I finally remembered; it was this fine little ditty.

"They talked about the high price of furniture and rugs and fire insurance for ladybugs..."
